Riot Games continues to dazzle us with new & exciting skins for League of Legends every year, and this year is no exception. They have many plans, from new skin lines to changes in the shop.
Riot Games usually releases new skins every two weeks, so we can expect around 130-140 skins this year. Buckle up; we are looking at the League of Legends skins in 2022.
Changes in the shop: Mythic Shop
In addition to the regular League of Legends store, this year we are getting a new shop called the Mythic Shop. In this shop, the content will be rotating regularly, and players will be able to purchase skins using their mythic essence. “What’s a mythic essence?” you might ask. It is a new currency in League of Legends that will replace prestige points and gemstones. Once launched, your current gemstones will be replaced by mythic essence, but prestige points will be removed. So, don’t forget to use your prestige points before the mythic shop is launched.
The mythic shop will feature two types of skins: seasonal mythics and past prestige skins. We will look at the past prestige skins in the next section, but let’s talk about the seasonal mythics first.
Seasonal mythics will replace Hextech skins in the mythic shop and will change—well—seasonally. Riot Games has already announced their first seasonal mythics: Ashen Knights. In this new skin line, the champions will represent the knights whose kingdoms have fallen. So far, we’ve only seen Pyke from this line, and it’s enough to make us excited for the rest of the series.

Prestige skins
As League of Legends players, you are already familiar with Prestige skins. But we have some news for you regarding the old and upcoming skins.
Let’s start with past prestige skins and the mythic shop. The prestige skins that are older than a year will be rotating monthly in the mythic shop. So, don’t forget to check it every month to see if the skin you desire is featured.
Prestige skins from 2018 and 2019 will receive an exclusive version. This version will not be available in the shop and will be given to players who already have the skin to appreciate their early commitment.
The Prestige skins are getting an update as well. Upcoming prestige skins will feature additional visual effects and unique splash arts to make them even more special.
Community votes
Following last year’s trend, Riot Games hosted two votes to determine which champion is getting a visual graphics update and which skin thematics are getting revamped.
The VGU poll featured 5 champions: Tryndamere, Shyvana, Skarner, Kog’maw, and Nocturne. Even though the votes are spread closely, we had a clear winner: Skarner, the Crystal Vanguard.
The poll for revamping skins was announced on the Skins & Events in 2022 video. After a week of voting, the community has decided to revamp Gothic Skins. The poll was between Infernals, Arclight skins, and Gothic thematics. Gothic won with 49.4% of the total votes.
So far, we have 3 skins in the Gothic thematics:
Emumu
Goth Annie
Gothic Orianna
Of course, this doesn’t mean the Gothic thematics will be limited to these champions. In addition to skin revamps, we might see new Gothic skins.
Which champions are getting a skin this year?
Riot Games decided to show some love to champions who haven't got any skins for a long time. After all, Lux can’t get all the love to herself. Looking at the last 100 days, they decided to release skins to the following champions:
Gangplank
Fiddlesticks
Rek’Sai
Trundle
Rell
Orianna
Heimerdinger
Revisiting old skin lines

Riot Games announced that they are going to revisit some of the skin thematics from previous years this year.
Bees! is one of the cutest skins thematics in the game with Bee'Maw, Beezahar, Beekeeper Singed, Beemo, and Yuubee. This skin thematic is getting at least one more champion (and hopefully more): Orianna. Revealed in the Skins and Events video, Orianna looks cuter than ever. The ball is shaped like a queen bee and ready to bzzz enemies. In our opinion, this might be one of the best League of Legends skins in 2022.
Another fan favorite, Star Guardians, is being revisited this year. New champions will be joining the Star Guardians in their quest to save the galaxy! But there is one crucial question that comes to mind here: Will the new Star Guardians have Pajama skins as well?
Lastly, we have the High Noon thematics coming back this year. Let’s see if a new gunslinger will get the skin or will Riot Games go for a new direction.

There is one more skin line that is announced to be revisited. Well, not actually. We are talking about a single skin that was loved by the community: Battle Bunny Riven. Riot Games announced that this skin will be a part of the new skin line: Anima SquadIn this announcement video, Jonathan Belliss, product lead for personalization and events, explained the Anima Squad as follows: “Anima Squad has everything you’d expect to see in a futuristic thematic, like sleek, high-tech armor, powerful warriors, and cute animals.”
Riot Games haven’t announced any champions in this series yet. The art shown in the Skins & Events video features a character that looks similar to Miss Fortune; however, this is not confirmed by Riot Games.
